Did Any Constellations Survive?
Yes. 7 constellations remained intact. Many of the current 88 constellations have few or no bright stars, and so are not worth considering. The impersonal clustering algorithms cared nothing about our 88 mythology-laden constellations. They ignored historical relationships or traditions as they clustered the stars. The computer was concerned only with the visual distance among the stars, with some concession toward centering asterisms on the brightest stars. But this is what the ET’s wanted of us – visually clear, universally recognized patterns representing humankind’s archetypes.
The Survivors (North):
- Auriga: 8 of its 9 stars became 8 of the 9 stars of Asterism 16.
- Cassiopeia: 6 of its 8 stars became 6 of the 8 stars of Asterism 9.
- Cepheus: 7 of its 8 stars became all 7 stars of Asterism 5.
The Survivors (South):
- Capricorn: 6 of its 6 stars became 6 of the 7 stars of Asterism 52.
- Corvus: All 5 of its stars became the 5 stars of Asterism 57.
- Pavo: 5 of its 6 stars became 5 of the 7 stars of Asterism 79.
- Sagittarius: 15 of its 16 stars became the 15 stars of Asterism 60.
